Tina van Deventer from Pretoria, South Africa is famous for two reasons:
(1) She and her husband Francois homeschool their 12 children. Yes, twelve!
(2) She herself was homeschooled before it was legalized in South Africa, and her parents were prosecuted for not sending her to school.
She and her family live in Pretoria. She was in a Reformed private elementary school and was homeschooled through high school before it was legal in South Africa. Her parents were prosecuted and sentenced, and she then had to finish her schooling in a public school.
She holds a national diploma in Ceramic Technology and worked at the CSIR, where she did research. She is happily married with 12 children, of whom not a single child has ever attended school. The eldest three children have already completed their schooling. She runs a reading aloud support group, “Boekwurm”, and supports many new moms who are starting out homeschooling.
